Summary: I advocate for, vet and prioritize software investments in the carrier portfolio. Then I communicate about to internal and external stakeholders.
The Portfolio Manager acts as the business owner for the portfolio of products and is responsible for product strategy, planning, and supporting execution as it aligns to meeting the changing needs of the healthcare/insurance market. The Portfolio Manager is responsible for ensuring that senior leadership understands the health, strategy, and profitability of the portfolio playing a key role in enterprise prioritization and planning.
Product Manager - eBilling, eExchange, eSales, eDirect - Benefitfocus

Summary: I manage a team of Product Managers for our five carrier-facing products. While we are filling available Product Management positions, I manage the products.
The Product Manager defines and leads the overall product vision, scope, requirements, usability of end user facing products built on the Benefitfocus Platform. This includes:
- Researching and completing market opportunity assessments for new products and enhancements
- Work closely with engineering and user experience in an agile development environment
- Launch new products to internal and external audiences
- Stays on top of market trends to determine new or enhanced product capabilities.
- Continually assess internal and external customer feedback and business metrics.
- Drive sales by traveling to clients and presenting software solutions.
Senior Manager - Solution Engineering (Technical Sales) - Benefitfocus
(October 2009 to December 2015)
Summary: I was a technical sales consultant responsible for a team of solution engineers for our largest, most complex clients.
I was a player/coach manager for a team of solution engineers based across the country. Solution Engineers design and sell software solutions by collaborating with clients through business requirements and integration needs for complex, enterprise-scale software solutions (software as a service). This requires taking complex architecture, software and integration concepts and presenting their value to different types of buyers (technical, skeptical, C-level, competitive).
Clients include national and regional insurance carriers, insurance brokers and large employers.
Product Manager and Business Analyst - Benefitfocus
(December 2006 to October 2009)
Summary: I learned the software by being a business analyst and used that experience to become a product manager.
I worked as a business analyst and UX designer on our eEnrollment software, specifically focused on integrating video capabilities into the user experience. When leadership decided to monetize our video solutions, I was promoted to Product Manager. My primary responsibilities were creating and launching media products to sell to insurance carriers and large employers.
Director of Operations - Select Corporate Housing
Summary: I helped the owners operationalize a new acquisition.
Managed and grew a newly purchased corporate housing company with a local entrepreneur. Responsible for personnel and general management and growth of the Charleston, Columbia, Augusta and Savannah markets. Managed general operations, sales, occupancy percentage, accounts receivable, client services and partnership management.
Summary: I coached college football while receiving my MBA.
I coached offensive lineman (Denison University) and wide receivers (WVWC). In 2003, our team won the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. We also received coaching staff of the year for the conference.
